A Family Legacy Spanning Five Generations
La Cabane du Paliquey was born from a deep-rooted passion for oyster farming on the Bassin d'Arcachon, passed down through five generations of a dedicated family.
In 2004, Nicolas Labarthe breathed new life into an old oyster hut at the Port de La Teste-de-Buch, reviving a century-old tradition. Today, each oyster raised in the deep waters of the Bassin and aged for six months tells the story of an exceptional maritime terroir.
The Name Paliquey: A Tribute to Ancestral Fishing
The name Paliquey honours Nicolas's great-grandfather, a fisherman who practised the pêche au palet — an ancient technique once common across the Bassin d'Arcachon, now vanished.
This method involved trapping fish at high tide using nets stretched across wooden stakes. Though the practice has disappeared, its spirit lives on in the soul of the cabane — a living bridge between tradition and today's authentic, convivial experience.
